Malaysia’s Digital Nomad Visa Tax Policies
In October 2022, Malaysia introduced its digital nomad visa, known as the DE RANTAU NOMAD PASS. This visa falls under the category of a Professional Visit Pass, with a validity period ranging from 3 to 12 months and the option to renew for an additional 12 months, for a maximum stay of 24 months. One of the most attractive features of Malaysia’s digital nomad visa is its fully online application process. Applicants can apply without intermediaries and without needing to physically visit Malaysia.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following professional background criteria:
- Digital freelancers, independent contractors, or remote workers in the IT field.
- Professionals in digital marketing.
- Entrepreneurs or creators involved in digital content development.
In addition to professional background requirements, applicants must demonstrate an annual income of at least USD 24,000 (approximately RMB 166,000) in the past year.
Tax Policies for Digital Nomads
Malaysia has not introduced specific tax policies for digital nomads under the DE RANTAU NOMAD PASS. As a result, the taxation of digital nomads in Malaysia is governed by the country’s general tax laws.
